The Development of 2D Animation Media to Preserve the Traditional Weaving Wisdom of the Ban Thamniab Weaving Mill

Abstract

This research aims to (1) Design and develop a 2D animation to preserve and promote the traditional weaving wisdom of the Ban Thamniab Weaving Mill; (2) Evaluate viewer satisfaction with the 2D animation created to preserve the weaving wisdom of the Ban Thamniab Weaving Mill; and (3) Serve as a learning resource and means of continuing the traditional weaving knowledge of the Ban Thamniab Weaving Mill. The population in this research consisted of 100 members and local residents in Khuan Phang Subdistrict, Ron Phibun District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, who are involved in local weaving, along with 5 weaving experts. The sample group was selected using purposive sampling. The development process of the animation consisted of six steps is field data collection, character and scene design, animation development, adding sound and effects, checking and editing, and publishing the animation through online platforms. The research instruments included a 2D animation and structured questionnaires. Data analysis employed quantitative methods using descriptive statistics and qualitative methods through content analysis. The research findings revealed that the 2D animation developed to preserve the traditional weaving wisdom of the Ban Thamniab Weaving Mill received a high level of satisfaction, particularly in terms of the clarity of the content and the attractiveness of the visuals and sound. The members and local residents who viewed the animation gained significantly more knowledge about the weaving process and the cultural value of local traditions. They also showed a positive attitude toward using animation as a medium to convey cultural heritage, considering it a modern and appropriate approach for the digital era. Weaving experts commented that the animation accurately and comprehensively conveyed the content and communicated effectively. Moreover, the animation successfully captured the attention of younger audiences and showed strong potential in promoting sustainable learning of local culture.
