Abstract

This study aimed to (1) examine students’ levels of perception and understanding of flexible learning through the I-Design Elective Courses within the curriculum structure, and (2) investigate factors related to students’ perceptions and understanding of this course category. The study employed a survey research design. The sample consisted of 381 undergraduate students from a higher education institution in Thailand who voluntarily participated in the study. Data were collected through an online questionnaire. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis. The findings revealed that students demonstrated high to very high levels of both perception and understanding of the I-Design Elective Courses. In addition, students’ feedback indicated the need for clearer communication regarding the curriculum structure, particularly the distinctions among I-Design Elective Courses, Major Elective Courses, Free Elective Courses, and Minor Courses. These findings suggest that some students remain uncertain about the characteristics and requirements of these course categories, which may affect their academic planning and decision-making. The study highlights the importance of effective communication and academic advising in supporting students’ understanding of flexible learning opportunities within higher education curricula.
