Abstract

This quantitative research aimed to examine the external and internal factors affecting employee performance in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bangkok. The sample consisted of 385 employees working in SMEs. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The statistics used for data analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation, and multiple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that external and internal factors significantly influenced employee performance at the 0.05 level. The most influential factor was work motivation, followed by communication skills and job characteristics aligned with employees’ aptitudes and abilities. Together, these three factors explained 42.3 percent of the variance in employee performance. The results suggest that SMEs should focus on enhancing work motivation, developing employees’ communication skills, and assigning job positions that match employees’ potential in order to improve work performance and sustainably strengthen organizational competitiveness.
